We are delighted that the Morecambe Offshore Windfarm Generation Assets DCO application has today been granted development consent by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
The DCO is a major milestone for Morecambe Offshore Windfarm, which is located in the Eastern Irish Sea. The proposed 480-megawatt (MW) project will generate enough renewable electricity to power more than 500,000 UK homes, helping accelerate the UK’s transition to cleaner, greener energy.
Earlier this year, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) announced an agreement to acquire full ownership of the project from Cobra Group and Flotation Energy. Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) are now leading development and construction, with Flotation Energy continuing as a key development partner.
Reflecting on the DCO decision, Oliver Gardner, Consent Manager for Flotation Energy, said:
”“We are extremely happy with the Secretary of State’s decision to grant a Development Consent Order for the Morecambe Generation Assets. This is the culmination of around six years of work. I am grateful to the team for their considerable efforts to get the project to this stage. We would like to thank our stakeholders and everyone who participated in the application process for their engagement. We look forward to continuing to work with COP as we move onto the next stages of the project.”
Holly Cartwright, COP UK and Ireland Co-CEO said:
”“We are delighted with today’s positive decision from the Secretary of State, which follows many years of intensive development and engagement. It marks a significant milestone in delivering a project that will strengthen the UK’s clean-energy future. Our thanks go to the dedicated team at COP for their exceptional work throughout this year, and to Flotation Energy and COBRA for the many years of planning that have brought us to this milestone.”
